A roaring round of applause for my clients Chad and Casey!! It was such a pleasure chatting all things coffee and helping you find a home in Bellevue.
Thanks to their home purchase, they have become a HERO to a person in need by helping a marginalized teen (see story below) find a second chance in life through Chapman Homes Partnership with Choose180 (see story below).
“Come in with an open mind and an open heart, and just know that you will walk away with something that you didn’t come with--whether it be inspiration to help you get through what you’re going through, someone you can relate to...just come in with an open mind and positive attitude.”
Demitrus was referred to the workshop in February, and upon arrival, was impressed by how informative and positive an experience it was. “I thought it was going to be a real quick meeting…but today just really blew my mind, and I had a great time.” What stood out most for Demitrus were the volunteer stories, specifically how open and vulnerable they were. “It was inspiring to hear other people’s stories and to know that we all have a story to tell. It was encouraging.”
Their vulnerability inspired him to bring the same openness and presence into the small group breakout sessions. There, he was inspired by the positive energy, positive support, and the format helped him learn a lot about himself. One memory Demitrus says he’ll take away from the workshop? The graduation, where young people cheer for each other as they take turns reading “Why I CHOOSE 180”, turning in their beads (which represent past experiences like theft, skipping school, violence, etc.) and in return receive their completion certificate and CHOOSE 180 wristband.
Demitrus says that after today, “one thing that is going to different is my thinking. I mean, just to get away from toxic thoughts and toxic environments, toxic people and really just taking it one day at a time.”
His advice to other young people referred to the workshop? “Come in with an open mind and an open heart, and just know that you will walk away with something that you didn’t come with--whether it be inspiration to help you get through what you’re going through, someone you can relate to...just come in with an open mind and positive attitude.”
