Thank you to Gabe and Angela, who's home sale helped empower young people to make a positive change in critical life moments through the work of CHOOSE 180. Here's the story of a young person empowered through CHOOSE 180.
Joey's Story:
"I like it when you can write down your goals. When you write them down, it helps you manifest your goals. My goals on my compass were to be successful and provide for my family.” Joey came to the CHOOSE 180 workshop feeling weighed down by the events that led him there. “I was kind of disappointed with myself and the whole situation. That I let myself get into that situation.”
Joey explained how his feelings of self-disappointment slowly dissipated as he continued through the different stages of the workshop. “After coming here today, I definitely feel a lot better. I didn’t think it was going to be like this. I didn’t think everybody was going to be so open and willing to talk about their experiences and life and stuff like that. But it was really cool. It really was cool.” Joey resonated with each storyteller as they shared how they were able to transcend their struggles and let go so they could live our their purpose. This inspired Joey to shift his focus to his next steps.
Joey’s favorite part of the day was setting his own goals through the compass curriculum in a small group. During this portion of the workshop, Joey was able to connect with peers and talk about the things he was dealing with. Through the compass worksheet, Joey determined where he wanted to be and how he was going to get there. “The small groups were very beneficial because you could really reach out to people individually. You could see what they were going through. You could see how you could help them and how they could help you. I also liked the compass – I like it when you can write down goals. When you write them down, it helps you manifest your goals. My goals on my compass were to be successful and provide for my family.”
